Recommendations for action from the COIIM for technical services of electromedicine in hospitals (COVID-19)

Portada del informe COIIM Covid19The Medical and Sanitary Engineering Commission of the Official College and Association of Industrial Engineers of Madrid (COIIM) has prepared a document to support the management of the technical area of ​​hospitals during the development of the crisis caused by the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

José Antonio Rodríguez Leyva, General Manager of Sisemed and member of the Commission, has participated in the writing of the report that includes a series of recommendations on how to proceed with the technical service work in the hospital environment, where the company carries out a large part of its exercise.

"It is at this time," says Leyva, "that it is a priority to take extreme measures to protect our displaced technicians in hospitals throughout Spain where we provide services, to guarantee the availability of medical equipment that is key to standing up to the crisis".

The document, which has also had the collaboration of the Spanish Association of Hospital Engineering, tries to identify the essential works to keep the necessary infrastructures and equipment that support the healthcare activity operational, with special emphasis on measures for protection and self-protection, such as the PPE, to avoid contagions among the workers of the center for carrying out technical service tasks.

The objective of COIIM is to contribute the experience of industrial engineers, hospital engineering and maintenance specialists, electromedical equipment, medicinal gases, energy and research in the health sector. The members of the commission are collaborating in one way or another in tackling the impact of this health crisis from different fronts: coordinating the search for solutions to technical problems and challenges that are currently taking place at such exceptional times, or directly, in healthcare devices of reference or provisional as field hospitals that are being enabled throughout the Spanish territory.
